The UN has rejected US demands to extend arms embargo against Tehran by 13 to 2. Russia and China voted against the US proposal, 11 other countries, including France, Germany and Britain, abstained and only the Dominican Republic voted in support of the US proposal.
The 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers promised that many international sanctions against Iran would be lifted as long as Iran agreed to curb its nuclear programme. Iran have effectively kept to their part of the deal and the deal is due to expire shortly, which is why the US and Israel are trying to pressure the UN to extend the embargo.
Trump withdrew the US from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018 but it would seem most of the members of the UN are not happy to support the US direction of travel.
