A 200yr old Palestinian cemetery in Jaffa, Tel Aviv is to be ripped up to make way for a shelter. Israeli special forces have used stun grenades, tear gas and pepper spray against Palestinian protesters. 17 protesters have been arrested.
Israeli authorities seem intent on removing all record of Palestinian history and heritage. In Jaffa, under the guise of development, they’ve already demolished numerous buildings and tens of Palestinians and Arab cemeteries. They’ve even cut down trees that are hundreds of years old. The Hilton Hotel was built over the cemetery of Abd al-Nabi village. The Tel Aviv University parking lot was built over the cemetery of the village of Sheikh al-Muwannis village and the Mamilla cemetery in Jerusalem has been bulldozed to make way for a museum of Jewish tolerance.
Following the protests on Friday, Benjamin Netanyahu’s son Yair, tweeted that he thinks all minorities should be banned from Tel Aviv … “The riots prove that there is no chance for coexistence in Tel Aviv-Jaffa, and all the minorities must leave the city”. I remember it wasn’t all that long ago some jumped up little upstart was calling for minorities to be kicked out of Germany.
We cry shame when neo-Nazi’s desecrate Jewish gravestones in this country. Israel desecrates entire Palestinian cemeteries and Yair wants all minorities kicked out but we can’t call them Nazis?
