Labour’s NEC have now agreed on a timetable for the leadership election. Prospective candidates must first secure the backing of a minimum of 21 MPs plus at least 5% of constituency Labour groups or 5% of affiliated Labour groups but the affiliated groups must include at least 2 unions. Deadline for this is this coming Monday (13th January) so any other prospective candidates will be expected to announce very soon.
The deadline for people to join the Labour party and still be able to vote in the leadership election is 20th January and affiliate members have a short window (14th to 16th January) within which to register as a Labour supporter in order to vote. Registered voters will also have to pay a £25 fee.
