The right wing MSM narrative was a chorus of fat shaming and guilt today, as they declared that the higher rate of COVID deaths in the UK (and in wealthier countries in general) was all our own fault because so many of us are overweight.
Not a hint of a suggestion that it might have anything to do with government incompetence or their capitalist drive to end lockdown, repeatedly pushing to ‘re-open the economy’ and of course it has nothing to do with over population in major cities, where people are forced to live in close proximity, compared to the often more rural settings of less wealthier nations. Some regimes also have the ability to enforce an immediate and more rigid, military style, lock down and have worked actively to eradicate the disease rather than try to learn to live with it or “take it on the chin” (like Vietnam or China for example).
Just because a report from the ‘World Obesity Federation’ has been able to demonstrate a ‘correlation’ between obesity and higher rates of death from COVID in wealthier nations, it does not mean that the reason is purely down to weight. A more scientific report would look at other potential contributory factors as well before drawing any conclusions.
I guess narrative control and supporting the Tory government is more important to the likes of the BBC and right wing press?
