- Ross is fervently pro-Union
- In 2017, Ross remarked that if he could be Prime Minister for a day “without any repercussions”, he would “like to see tougher enforcement against Gypsy Travellers”
- Also in 2017, Ross was heavily criticised for missing a debate on Universal Credit due to his commitments as a football referee.
- Was previously a member of the Scottish Liberal Democrats
- Was elected as a Cllr representing the Fochabers-Lhanbryde ward in Moray Council in 2007
- In 2014, Ross was ousted from the council administration following the resignation of the council leader over a defeated school closure plans. Apparently, Ross opposed primary school closures at the time.
- Ross served as ‘Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Scotland’ for 6 months under Boris Johnson but resigned in protest in May 2020 after Johnson refused to ditch Dominic Cummings for breaking lockdown rules.
- Became a member of the Scottish Parliament in 2016
- Ross became MP for Moray in 2017, gaining a seat at Westminster.
- Ross supported the UK remaining in the EU in the 2016 referendum but later switched to a pro-Brexit position and supported Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.
- August 2020, Ross becomes leader of the Scottish Conservatives.
