The President of black police association has called for urgent reforms and for Cressida Dick to acknowledge there are problems with racism within the police force.
Andrew George, the President of the National Black Police Association, said the Dawn Butler police stop was “rooted in bias” and demonstrated that the current system clearly still views black people as “criminals or drug dealers”. He adds “I would ask why a vehicle being registered in Yorkshire and driving in a global hub like London is enough, by itself, to warrant checking the owner details.”
George believes the Met are beginning to lose legitimacy, especially amongst black communities and that they have seriously undermined their ability to “police by consent”.
