This is the Diversity performance on a recent episode of Britain’s Got Talent that has already garnered 15,500 complaints to Ofcom. It would appear there is another sickness, other than COVID, in this counrty. It’s a cancerous disease called racism and some people defiantly choose to remain riddled with it.
The performance inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement essentially delivers a message of hope and change but clearly, to some folks, change is a very scary concept because change demands a leveling up. It demands fair and equal treatment for people of all races. There’s no difference, in there eyes, between the refugee crossing the Mediterranean, the Windrush generation who have worked here their entire adult lives and paid into the system or the European economic migrant because all of these people represent competition – competition for jobs, housing, public services and, as far as they’re concerned, the white indigenous population deserves priority. Anyone with that mindset will never agree to racial equality.
Of course the problem doesn’t just lie with your basic common or garden racist, it’s also the system that either allows it or kowtows to it. The response from Ofcom is rather revealing for example.. “We are assessing this content against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate.”
