Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani admits he forced the US ambassador to the Ukraine out of office. Giuliani has told the New Yorker that he fired the US envoy, Marie Yovanovitch, because he needed her “out of the way” and because she “was going to make the investigations difficult for everybody,”
Ms Yovanovitch is a key witness in the impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump in which he has been accused of pressuring the Ukrainian leader into digging up dirt on his political rival and former Vice-President, Joe Biden. The former envoy claims that she was removed because she had been fighting corruption in the Ukraine and said that she believes certain influential Ukrainians, who had the US Presidents ear, were behind her dismissal, implying that this could have been part of a reciprocal arrangement.
Trump is facing two charges – abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The lower chamber is expected to vote on the impeachment on Wednesday or Thursday of this week.
