The Mail on Sunday has obtained footage showing white police officers brutally attacking Muslim parents at the hospital bedside of their dying 6yr old daughter.
The bodycam footage shows both parents being manhandled and the father being grabbed by the neck and dragged to the floor as a female officer shouts “You’re acting like an animal, it’s disgusting”. You can also hear the father repeatedly telling the officers that he felt faint and had chest pains and that he needed his heart medication, to which another officer responds “You’ve brought this on yourself”. The father, Rashid Abbasi, a 59-year-old hospital consultant, was later told that he had in fact suffered a heart attack and had to undergo an emergency angioplasty the following day.
The Abbasi family had been fighting doctors for years over their daughter, Zainab’s, treatment.
Zainab had a rare genetic illness that caused severe respiratory problems. In fact, Dr Abbasi, who happens to be a respiratory expert at another hospital, had successfully argued for Zainab to be given steroids on two previous occasions when Zainab was critically ill and doctors were proposing to withdraw life support. Zainab’s condition improved on both occasions.
Dr Abbasi is now suing the police for wrongful arrest.
